The old man urges Faustus to repent and to ask God for mercy.Old man appears in final scene.He seems to replace the good angel and evil angels.

Old man is an allegorical character,he pray him to stop violation,bag him that his soul is still "amiable" or good. He claims to see an angel flattering over faustus’s  head waiting  to pour avial  full of precious  grace’ into that soul.

He is conscious that Faustus has turned his back on sorrow .and then he is attacked by a  number of devils,whom he defies by his turn towards God ,emphasizing the strength that he gains from his faith.

"O, gentle Faustus ,leave this damned art,
This magic,will charm the soul to hell,
And quite bereave the of salvation !
If sin by custom grow not into nature;
Then,Faustus will  repentance to come too late;
Then though art banished from the sight of heaven:
No mortal can express the pains of hell"

Seven Deadly Sins :

This another feature borrowed from the tradition of the morality play.In this play ,to divert Faustus ‘s attention from Christ ,his savior ,Lucifer comes to rebukes him for invoking Christ and the presents of  seven deadly sins as a diversion.

In Doctor Faustus they are presented to Faustus only to delight and distract him from heavenly  thoughts.These sins have also a philosophical significance  and also function to appeal  to the general audience. After  the appearance  of  these sins Faustus says ,” O ,this feeds my soul!

We  can see in faustus's character -

The comic scenes  also belong  to the tradition of morality plays .Faustus is found playing vile tricks on the pope and the horse-courser is totally outwitted and be fooled by Faustus.

The comic scene show the tragic waste  of Faustus ‘s  power, Whereas earlier  he had thought  in terms of large and vast sums of wealth and power ,here he is concerned with  the insignificant sum of forty dollars. Faustus  blackmails  the horse courser  for an additional forty dollars for attempting to awake him.

Another  comic  scene we find in act 3 - scene 1 which is laid in the privy chamber of the pope in Rome, where Faustus plays tricks on the pope. In pope’s count ,Faustus  shows his funny tricks to the guests .

He asks mephistophilis  to make him invisible  so that he can play a few tricks on the pope  who is a feast in the company of the cardinal of Lorraine.

Faustus ‘s  Final Soliloquy :

Faustus to his utmost pain and horror, realize that his sins are unpardonable and nothing can save him from eternal damnation

"My God, my God, look not so fierce on me!
Alders and serpents let me breathe a while!
Ugly hell,gape not : come not Lucifer:
burn my books : Ah mephistophillis !
Christ ,my savior ,my savior
Help to save distressed Faustus ‘s soul! "

Faustus become enslaved by  mephistophilis   and  Lucifer, whenever he thinks of repenting ,the devil takes immediate measures to stop him from such a thought. He realizes that he had already lost his soul  before the death that he must meet at the end of specified 24 years.

When Faustus calls out to God ." To save distressed  Faustus ‘s soul "  Lucifer himself comes to the scene, He makes a humble promise never to name a God  or pray to him.

So Faustus cannot urges to ask God ‘s pardon Power of devil now controls him not only from outside but also from within.In.

The final scene,
“ Ah,my God! I would weep but the devil draws in my tears .” Faustus a scholar and he turns to magic as a means of infinite power ,he gave up ,higher values for lower pleasures he must now endures all the horrible  tortures of the hell.
